Brazilian visit to Manchester and London, 19-24 April 2015
A group of 14 Brazilian artists, policy makers, representatives of NGOs, and leaders of the Homeless People’s Movement travelled to Manchester and London in April 2015 to find out about homelessness in the UK and spend time with some of the UK’s leading arts and homelessness projects.
The group visited the Booth Centre in Manchester to see the fantastic daily programmes of activity at the centre, and met policy makers from Manchester City Council and other projects at an arts and homeless seminar.
In London, the delegation spent time with Café Art, Streetwise Opera, Cardboard Citizens, Choir With No Name, Crisis Skylight and Open Cinema and visited various homeless centres and projects.
The Greater London Authority hosted an event at London’s Living Room, City Hall on 22 April with presentations from the Deputy Mayor of Rio, Adilson Pires, and the Deputy Mayor of Housing in London, Richard Blakeway. There were also discussions and provocations about the impact of arts and homelessness and performances and presentations of creative projects.
